Introduction

The Postgraduate Diploma in procurement and supply chain management (PGDPSCM) coordinated by the Department of Procurement, Logistics and Marketing under the School of business management.  

For many years, procurement and supply chain management in developing countries has been given little attention. However, the recent past we have witnessed an increased interest in strengthening the procurement and supply chain function by donors, Government, and civil society organizations as well as private sector for the purposes of generating organizational growth, service delivery and developmental results. Many organizations have come up especially in developing countries which need to be run effectively and efficiently putting in mind value for money by the donors, investors, multi-National agencies, and governments. The programme is intended to provide an opportunity for for mid-career, Senior Executives and participants aspiring for higher levels of management in the public, private, and third sectors with advanced procurement and supply chain management skills.   The programme is designed to enhance the participant’s strategic thinking and approach in the way the procurement and supply chain management function is performed in organisations in public, private, and third sectors with emphasis on value adding and waste elimination throughout the integrated supply chain. Participants will benefit from new trends affecting the procurement and supply chain functions and the training will create a fundamental change of attitude towards innovative and critical thinking. Participants who successfully complete the course with second class lower and above may qualify to undertake the applied work-based research leading to the award of UMI’s prestigious Master’s Degree in Management Studies (MMS) in the Procurement and Supply Chain Management option.
